Dorothea Lange is the photographer who was hired to take photos of the Dust Bowl and its effects on the population of the US during the great depression. This helped convey the devastation in the Midwest that had a domino effect that affected all the country. she played a key role in getting funding to the farmers to restimulate the economy.

Social Documentary- is the effort of a generalist or the persons that want to bring the attention of the public to a vital issue.

Concerned Photography is a branch of Social Documentary, but this is a product of a humanitarian use of pictures to create stronger emotion for an event that is being covered such as the pictures of the political prisoners after a dictator takes over.

Compassionate Photography- the practice of placing intention around the humanity and emotional needs of people in complex and nuanced situations within the offering and art of photography.
